Squarespace or Shoopy? The honest comparison.

One is a design tool with a shop attached — the most polished templates in the business. The other is a shop built for how India pays. Here is the side-by-side, sourced.

Squarespace starts at $19 a month billed annually — about ₹21,900 a year, billed in dollars, with a 2% fee on store sales on Basic. Shoopy starts at ₹2,499 a year in rupees with UPI-ready Indian gateways, GST invoicing and WhatsApp built in.

The short version

Four numbers that change the answer.

₹2,499 vs ₹21,900Entry plan for a year — Shoopy Basic against Squarespace Basic at $19/month, annual billing, converted at ₹96 to the dollar.
₹5 cap vs 2%Squarespace Basic takes 2% of every store sale with no cap; moving to Core (₹33,400/yr) removes it. Shoopy’s fee never exceeds ₹5.
INR vs USDSquarespace has no rupee billing — your cost moves with the exchange rate. Shoopy bills in rupees.
UPI-ready vs PayPal-firstSquarespace commerce runs on Squarespace Payments (not in India), Stripe (invite-only for new Indian businesses) and PayPal. Shoopy connects five Indian gateways.

The honest part

Two platforms. Two different buyers.

Choose Squarespace if…

Design is the priority and the shop is secondary. Its templates are widely considered the most polished of any builder, and one editor runs site, blog and store. For a portfolio brand selling a small range abroad, it is a fair choice.

Choose Shoopy if…

You sell to Indian customers who pay by UPI, card and cash on delivery. Rupee billing, GST invoices, WhatsApp ordering and five Indian gateways are built in — none of which Squarespace offers a new Indian merchant today.

Illustrative example

Same sales. Two very different bills.

A store doing 300 orders a month at an ₹800 average order — ₹28,80,000 in yearly sales — using the published rates above.

On Squarespace

Basic: ₹21,888 plan + 2% of sales (₹57,600) = about ₹79,500 a year. Moving to Core drops the fee but raises the plan: about ₹33,400 flat — billed in dollars either way.

On Shoopy Professional

₹5,499 plan + ₹5-capped fees on 3,100 orders past the free 500 (₹15,500) = ₹20,999 a year — in rupees, exchange rate not invited.

Illustrative, from rates read August 2026, converted at ₹96/$. Squarespace Basic charges 2% on physical store sales (digital goods carry 7% on Basic, 5% on Core, 1% on Plus). Shoopy Professional 0.8% capped at ₹5. GST and gateway charges apply on both.

Frequently asked questions

Everything sellers ask about Squarespace vs Shoopy.

How much does Squarespace cost in 2026?

Squarespace’s current lineup is Basic at $19 a month on annual billing, Core at $29, Plus at $49 and Advanced at $99 — roughly ₹21,900 to ₹1,14,000 a year at ₹96 to the dollar. There is no free plan and no rupee billing, so your cost moves with the exchange rate.

Does Squarespace charge transaction fees?

On store sales, 2% on the Basic plan and 0% from Core up. Digital products and memberships carry their own fee ladder: 7% on Basic, 5% on Core, 1% on Plus, 0% on Advanced. Payment processing is charged separately by the processor.

Can an Indian store take UPI payments on Squarespace?

Not through anything native. Squarespace commerce supports Squarespace Payments (not available in India), Stripe and PayPal. Stripe accounts in India have been invite-only since May 2024, so a new Indian merchant realistically starts with PayPal — workable for exports, weak for domestic UPI and cash-on-delivery selling.

What does Squarespace do better than Shoopy?

Design, clearly. Its templates are widely considered the most polished of any builder, and the editor handles site, blog and store in one place. If your brand lives on how the site looks and you sell mainly abroad, that is a real advantage and we would not argue otherwise.

Can I move my Squarespace store to Shoopy?

Yes. Shoopy’s team exports and imports your products, customers and order history, then helps repoint your domain and connect an Indian payment gateway. Most stores are live within about a week — a complex catalogue can take longer — and there is a 14-day free trial with a 7-day money-back guarantee after you pay.
